CARNIVAL CRUISE LINES SETTLEMENT INFORMATION

Carnival Corporation agreed to pay $6.25 million to settle a class action case filed against the cruise line by its seafaring workers who alleged that Carnival had failed to pay the workers’ full wages, including overtime.

The settlement also requires Carnival to provide additional disclosure in its contracts regarding how tips are treated as overtime compensation, and to operate a grievance and arbitration procedure for wage claims. In the settlement, Carnival denies liability in the pending litigation.

Commenting on the settlement, plaintiffs’ attorney Tucker Ronzetti, of Miami law firm Kozyak Tropin & Throckmorton, said, “We are pleased that the parties have been able to resolve this dispute in a way that provides substantial relief to the seafaring workers.” Mr. Ronzetti is co-class counsel for the workers along with Julio Ayala of the Crewmember and Maritime Advocacy Center and Craig Downs of Miami law firm Downs Brill Whitehead.
